Just watched "My Beautiful Laundrette" - Obsessed with Daniel Day-Lewis!
Okay, so I just watched "My Beautiful Laundrette," and I'm still processing. The movie itself is, like, a whole thing, right? All about identity and class and sexuality. But Daniel Day-Lewis… wow. He's just magnetic as Johnny. It's crazy to think how young he was! He somehow embodied that lost, vulnerable rebel vibe so perfectly. The scene where he and Omar (the cutie played by Gordon Warnecke) are cleaning and fixing up the laundrette, and you can see their tentative connection growing...chef's kiss! What I loved most was how the film explored the various tensions present within the Pakistani community alongside the bigotry spewed from the skinheads. It felt so complex and genuine, not just painting everyone with the same brush. The relationship between Omar and his father was particularly poignant, especially with the dad's political aspirations adding another layer. I'm not gonna lie, the ending felt a bit abrupt? I was left wanting more. Like, what happens next for them? But maybe that's the point? Life rarely wraps up neatly with a bow. I also appreciated the film's visuals; some of the camera angles and lighting were stunning! It wasn't just some drab, kitchen-sink drama. I'd def recommend it if you're looking for something thought-provoking and featuring a young DDL absolutely crushing it. Anyone else seen it? What did you guys think? Did you also feel like the ending was a bit incomplete, or did that work for you?
