Ghoulies: They'll Get You... Eventually?
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Ghoulies" (1985). Let's just say it's... an experience? The plot is pretty standard '80s horror fare: dude moves into his dad's creepy mansion and starts summoning demons. But the Ghoulies themselves? They're like gremlins but...less chaotic? More like mischievous toddlers who occasionally bite ankles. The toilet scene is, iconic and I can't believe it got as big as it did. "They'll get you in the end," but honestly, I think you'd be annoyed more than scared. What really got me was the lead, Jonathan Graves. The performance is... well, I can't act like I've never seen worse. He's supposed to be this tormented guy becoming a demon master, but he mostly just comes across as whiny. And his girlfriend Rebecca? Bless her heart, she's just kinda...there. I feel like the Ghoulies had more personality. Speaking of the Ghoulies, I feel like the makeup quality is great for the time, even if the designs are pretty goofy. The scene where they're chilling in the kitchen drinking beer? That's what I'm talking about! Overall, "Ghoulies" isn't exactly good. But it's definitely entertaining. It's got that cheesy '80s charm and some genuinely funny moments. I would say it's only truly great for its nostalgic charm. I'd probabaly only recommend it to friends who like campy horror. "You just made your last delivery" is a great line, by the way, especially when it is coming from a ghoulie about to snack on you...or, like, nibble, probably. So, yeah, "Ghoulies." Not a good movie, but a fun waste of 80 minutes. What did you all think? Anyone else find themselves weirdly rooting for the little toilet demons?
