Okay, Hear Me Out: The Last Dragon is Secretly a Rom-Com??

Alright people, LaurenFilms here with a hot take. I just re-watched "The Last Dragon" (because, obviously, who doesn't revisit 80s cheese?) and I'm starting to think we've all been sleeping on its rom-com potential. Yes, it's got martial arts, a glowing dude, and Sho'nuff being the ULTIMATE villain (seriously, that laugh!), but underneath all that… there's Denise Matthews (Vanity, RIP) being adorable and Leroy Green being totally clueless about how much she's crushing. Think about it: Leroy is so focused on the glow and becoming 'The One' that he's completely oblivious to Laura Charles practically throwing herself at him. The whole 'rescue her from Eddie Arkadian' plotline? Classic rom-com setup. Guy saves girl from bad situation, girl falls for guy. The only thing missing is a grand gesture at the end, but honestly, his 'glow' moment kinda counts, right? Plus, the music - Luther Vandross?! Come on! That's like, rom-com gold! Even Sho'nuff plays the role of the jerky ex-boyfriend you gotta get rid of before you can be with the 'nice guy' which Leroy lowkey is even though he's got some weird ideas about martial arts. I know, I know, it's a martial arts movie, but I'm telling you, rewatch it through rom-com eyes. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think it holds up! Anybody else getting these vibes, or am I just projecting my love of fluffy rom-coms onto everything? Let me know! Maybe I'm reaching, but couldn't resist a little overthinking. lol!
