Aliens: Okay, but let's talk about Vasquez!
Okay, so I finally got around to watching Aliens (yeah, yeah, I'm late to the party). I know it's like, a classic, and the action was genuinely gripping -- that whole sequence with the sentry guns was chef's kiss stressful. But honestly, the thing that really stuck with me was Jenette Goldstein as Vasquez. She’s just...magnetic. The whole 'tough as nails space marine' thing can sometimes feel forced, but she totally sold it. Like, her intensity in that initial briefing scene? You knew she wasn't messing around. And the physicality! I read somewhere that she worked out like crazy for the role, and it shows. It’s not just about looking strong, it's about how she moves. She carries herself with this confidence that makes you believe she could take on anything. Even those, uh, things. Plus, her dynamic with Gorman? Hilarious! I loved how she just completely disregarded his authority. Honestly, I'm kind of kicking myself for not watching this sooner just to appreciate her performance. I think what I liked most is that Vasquez never felt like a caricature. She was tough, yes, but there were little glimpses of vulnerability too. The way she looked at Gorman right before that scene (you know the one), you could see she wasn't just being cocky, she actually cared. Also, is it just me, or did her and Drake have something going on? I swear the looks they gave each other were more than just 'fellow soldier' vibes. I wish they explored their relationship more! Overall, yeah, the movie was good with the scary space bugs and explosions but Vasquez? She elevated it. She’s a total badass and a legit fascinating character. Did anyone else get as fixated on her performance as I did? Let me know what you thought!
