Ferris Bueller - Cameron's a figment, right? Hear me out...

Okay, okay, so I just rewatched Ferris Bueller's Day Off (again. Sue me, I needed a 'Life moves pretty fast...' reminder). And something REALLY hit me this time. Is Cameron like... Ferris' imaginary friend? I know, sounds wacky, but stick with me. First off, Cameron's whole deal is being a hypochondriac and super anxious. He's clearly not having a good time most of the day, but he goes along with Ferris' plan anyway. It's like he's this constant voice of worry inside Ferris' head, made manifest. Plus, the whole scene with the Ferrari? The intense breakdown and then suddenly he's okay with taking the blame? It felt like Ferris working through some deep-seated guilt about, I don't know, maybe always taking advantage of people? And consider this: everyone loves Ferris. Teachers, students, even the freaking art museum people are mesmerized by him. It's almost too perfect. Could Cameron represent the downsides Ferris is subconsciously dealing with, the consequences he doesn't want to face? Maybe, just maybe, Cameron doesn't physically exist, but is a projection of Ferris's inner turmoil. The dude's got to have some anxieties, right? 'I did everything right and they loved me!' Yeah, but at what cost, dude? I know, I know, its a stretch. But, 'Is it possible for an open-minded person to be, at the same time, overbearing and a bore?' Discuss! I'm ready to be told I'm completely wrong LOL.
