Big Trouble in Little China - Underrated 80s GEM or am I just nostalgic?
Okay, so I just rewatched "Big Trouble in Little China" and I gotta ask, is this movie as awesome as I remember, or am I just blinded by 80s nostalgia goggles? Seriously, Kurt Russell as Jack Burton, the super-overconfident truck driver who is totally clueless but thinks he's the hero? Gold! I mean, the whole concept is bonkers, right? Ancient Chinese magic, weird monsters, Kim Cattrall being a total badass... it's like someone threw a bunch of awesome stuff in a blender and hit puree. I'm especially curious about what everyone thinks of Lo Pan. He's a seriously creepy villain, and James Hong kills it. But is he actually scary, or is he just a product of the time? The whole 'green-eyed woman' plot point feels kinda dated now, but the execution is so over-the-top that it somehow works. Like, the scene where they're fighting in the alley and the lightning dude comes out of nowhere? Still gets me hyped! And don't even get me started on the practical effects! They are SO cheesy, but also SO good. I love how they committed to the wackiness. So, yeah, what do you guys think? Is "Big Trouble in Little China" a legit classic, or just a fun, goofy ride that hasn't aged super well? Hit me with your opinions, I need to know if I'm alone on this mountain of awesome!
