"The Name of the Rose" - Seriously Underrated or Just Me?
Okay, so I just watched "The Name of the Rose" (totally randomly, tbh) and I'm kinda shook. Like, Sean Connery as a medieval Sherlock Holmes? Yes, please! But seriously, no one ever talks about this movie. Is it just me, or is it proper underrated? The whole vibe is so dark and creepy, and the mystery kept me guessing the whole time. Plus, Christian Slater as the novice? Baby Christian Slater? Iconic. I’m especially bugged out by that whole library situation. Like a labyrinth of forbidden knowledge?! Gives me chills just thinking about it. And the different monks all being sus in their own ways? Super well done. I did get a little lost with some of the religious stuff (I'm not exactly a history buff!), but overall, it was way more engaging than I expected a movie about 14th-century monks to be. Did anyone else actually see this movie when it came out? Or even, like, recently? What did you think? Am I just being a weirdo for being so into it, or is this a hidden gem that deserves more love? Also, anyone else think Ron Perlman should have been in more period pieces? He was terrifying/amazing. Lastly, who directed this thing? The direction was top notch, keeping me on the edge of my seat. Would love to check out other stuff by the same person! Maybe I'm late to the party, but I'm a believer now.
