Lost in the Labyrinth (and in my feels a little)

Okay, so I finally sat down and re-watched Labyrinth after...well, probably a couple decades. I remember being OBSESSED with it as a kid. David Bowie as the Goblin King? Come on! I think Jareth was my first movie crush, honestly. Rewatching it now, it's definitely...interesting. I think I appreciate the Henson creature work even more now than I did then. The Fireys are still hilarious and slightly terrifying (head off!). The Bog of Eternal Stench? Still makes me giggle. But Sarah... oof. I remember thinking she was so cool, but now I just kinda wanted to shake her. Like, girl, your delivery of the lines from the book is so wooden! You WANTED to wish your baby brother away! Maybe it's just Jennifer Connelly's age at the time, but it's a little rough around the edges. Bowie, on the other hand? Just chews up the scenery in the best way possible. That ballroom sequence is ICONIC. And the whole riddle/staircase thing? Still messes with my head. I do think the ending feels a little rushed. After all that labyrinth navigating, it's kind of just...over. But honestly, the whole movie is such a weird, wonderful fever dream that I kind of forgive it. It's definitely got some dated elements, but the sheer creativity on display is still impressive. Plus, let's be real, 'Magic Dance' still slaps. Anyone else still bust that out at karaoke? Overall, yeah, still enjoy it, but through a much different lens as an adult. It's a good example of a movie that's more about the ~vibe~ than a perfect plot, you know? Now I feel like I need to go watch Dark Crystal again...
