Okay, Okay, Crocodile Dundee...Hear Me Out!

Alright horror freaks, before you come at me with pitchforks, I know what you're thinking: "Crocodile Dundee? What's THAT doing in a horror/thriller discussion space, Jess?!" And you're kinda right, it's NOT horror. But I just rewatched it the other day and it got me thinking. Hear me out! Okay, so it's a comedy, right? This city girl reporter goes to the Outback and brings this rugged, knife-wielding Crocodile Dundee back to New York. It's fish-out-of-water hilarity. But like...think about it. From Dundee's perspective, though? Imagine being plucked from your familiar, wild environment and thrust into the concrete jungle of NYC. Everything is foreign, potentially hostile, and full of dangers he doesn't understand. Sure, it's played for laughs, like the scene where he confronts the muggers with his knife. "That's not a knife...THIS is a knife!" Classic. But underlying that is a real sense of… well, maybe not terror, but definite unease and the potential for violence. It's like a PG-13 version of 'Deliverance' in reverse! And honestly, Paul Hogan's performance is really good. He sells that 'don't mess with me' vibe, even when he's being goofy. He's like a less overtly scary R. Lee Ermey, LOL. So yeah, it's a stretch, I admit it! But I think you can view Crocodile Dundee through a slightly darker lens and appreciate the subtle undercurrents of danger and the clash of civilizations. Plus, I'd rather watch that than another found footage ghost movie. Anyone else ever think about it this way, or am I totally off my rocker? 😂 P.S. I still can't figure out who directed this movie. It's always "Unknown" when I look it up. Kinda weird.
