Cobra: Underrated Slice of 80s Cheese... With World-Building Potential?!

Okay, so I just rewatched "Cobra" (1986) and I gotta say, it's a glorious mess. Stallone is at peak Stallone-ness, growling every line like he's personally offended by oxygen. But beyond the action and the one-liners ('You're a disease, and I'm the cure!'), I started thinking about the world around the Night Slasher cult. Like, who ARE these guys? They're clearly organized and have some kinda twisted ideology driving them. I'd love to see someone really flesh out their backstory, maybe even explore the cult's origins and how they recruited people. The film barely scratches the surface, but there's a whole universe of depravity and social commentary ripe for the picking there. Think of the Night Slasher as a leader, but like, who were his leaders, influencers or the books they read. I think maybe they're like descendants of some medieval death cult, but living in big cities now. It's probably just me, but I get obsessed with the 'why' behind bad guys in these kinds of movies. The action is cool, sure, but what makes them tick? Marion Cobretti (Stallone) is awesome, that much is true, but the movie could work really well as a limited series. Imagine a prequel showing how the Night Slasher gained followers and started their reign of terror. I would watch it, with an open mind. I know, I know, I'm probably overthinking a cheesy 80s action flick. But hey, a sci-fi nerd can dream, right? Who else has ever thought about Cobra's world beyond the explosions and shotgun blasts?
