Cobra: Stallone's Forgotten Gem or Just Plain Cheesy?
Alright fellow Gen X'ers, let's talk 'Cobra' (1986). Stallone at his most… Stallone-y, right? I mean, the sunglasses, the gun, the toothpick – pure 80s cool distilled into one dude. I remember seeing this in the theater and thinking it was the ultimate action flick. But watching it now... well, it's definitely aged, hasn't it? Still entertaining, though! Anyone else remember the whole 'Night Slasher' gang? That leader dude with the freaky scissors was pretty darn creepy. And that chase scene with Ingrid (Brigitte Nielsen) in the truck? Pure adrenaline! It gives me major 'Mad Max' vibes with a dash of 'Dirty Harry' thrown in. But, seriously, some of the dialogue is just… wow. "You're the disease, I'm the cure!" I mean, c'mon Sly! But hey, we forgive him, right? I always wondered why this one doesn't get as much love as 'Rambo' or 'Rocky'. Maybe it's too over-the-top even for the 80s? Or maybe people just didn't buy Stallone as a cop after 'Rambo'? What do you folks think? Underappreciated action classic or just a fun, cheesy ride?
