Star Trek IV - Whales, Klingons, and San Francisco shenanigans! Thoughts?

Okay, international film fanatics, Priya here! I was rewatching "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" the other day (yes, the one with the whales!), and it got me thinking. I know it's not your typical heavy sci-fi flick, and it's definitely got a lighter tone than, say, "Wrath of Khan." But is that necessarily a bad thing? I absolutely LOVE the humor in this one. Spock trying to understand 80s slang? Kirk trying to haggle down the price of antique eyeglasses? Gold. But beyond the laughs, there's a really interesting core about environmentalism and our responsibility to other species. It feels surprisingly relevant even now. I was curious what everyone thinks of this one in the context of the other films. Was it a welcome change of pace, or did it feel too... silly? Also, a minor detail, but I'm always struck by how well they captured 1980s San Francisco. As someone who appreciates world cinema, the location is practically its own character. Do you think the setting contributes to the film's charm and enduring appeal, or do you find it a bit distracting from the overall sci-fi narrative? And okay, last question: Were you utterly charmed by Gillian Taylor like I was? That woman was a total badass!
