Little Shop of Horrors: Audrey II's Real Agenda?!
Okay, folks, scottscreens here, back with a burning question about 'Little Shop of Horrors.' We all know Audrey II craves 'Feed me, Seymour!' and wants world domination, but what if there's more to it? I've been rewatching it, and I'm starting to think Audrey II isn't just hungry; it's actively creating an opportunity. Think about it: Seymour's life is pathetic. Mushnik's a jerk, Audrey pines for Orin, and he's basically invisible. Audrey II gives him fame, fortune, and finally gets Audrey's attention! "Suddenly, Seymour, is standing beside you..." It's almost like Audrey II knows what Seymour needs, not just what it wants. Now, here's where it gets weird. Remember when Audrey II sings "Suppertime" to Mr. Mushnik? It sets up this elaborate scenario, right? What if it wasn't just about the snack? What if it was about eliminating Mushnik, the obstacle between Seymour and total control of the shop (and therefore, continued feeding)? The plant's a genius manipulator! Also, let's be real, Audrey gets eaten and asks Seymour to feed her to Audrey II. What commitment to her man! Don't even get me STARTED on Orin Scrivello, DDS. That dude was a menace. Audrey II totally did the universe a solid getting rid of him. The whole 'dying dentist' bit is hilarious ("Now it's comin' out my ears!"), but it also conveniently gets rid of Audrey's abusive boyfriend. It's like Audrey II is playing 5D chess here. Is it evil? Yeah, probably. But is it also... kind of helpful? I think maybe the plant just figured out the best way to take over the world and ensure its own survival was to give Seymour a reason to keep it alive and well fed. Deep, man, deep. I'm probably overthinking this (I tend to do that LOL), but I seriously wonder if Audrey II's plan wasn't just to eat everyone, but to become indispensable to Seymour, the pathetic pawn it's using to achieve its leafy goals. What do y'all think? Am I crazy, or am I onto something here?
