Little Shop of Horrors: Overrated, or am I just dead inside?
Okay, so I finally caved and watched Little Shop of Horrors (1986). Everyone acts like this movie is the second coming of cinematic comedy, but honestly? I'm not seeing it. Yeah, the Audrey II puppet is kinda cool, I'll give it that. But the whole thing just felt…forced? Like they were desperately trying to be quirky and edgy, but it mostly came off as annoying to me. Steve Martin was good, classic Steve Martin really, but even he wasn't enough to save it for me from being entirely forgettable. And don't even get me started on Audrey. I get that she's supposed to be this sweet, put-upon character, but she just seemed kinda dumb? Like, seriously, how many times do you have to get punched in the face before you realize your boyfriend is a psycho dentist? Gah. Maybe I'm just missing something, but I struggle to see what all the fuss is about. Is it the music? I dunno. The songs are catchy, sure, but they're not exactly Les Miserables material, you know? I did laugh when everyone got eaten, the ending song was okay... So, am I alone in thinking this? Or are people just blinded by nostalgia? I feel like they just put puppets and a musical to what would have been a decent dark comedy and it's too much. Convince me, or validate my contrarian soul.
