Anyone Else Still Get Emotional Watching An American Tail?! ðŸ˜
Okay, so I just watched An American Tail with the kids for the first time (I know, I'm late to the party!). I hadn't seen it since I was little, and WOW, it hit WAY harder as a parent. Fievel getting separated from his family... the whole immigration story... it was so much more poignant than I remembered. Did anyone else feel that way rewatching it as an adult? My youngest was so upset when Fievel was calling out for his family in that giant crowd. I had to pause the movie and give him a hug! Even my older one, who's usually pretty stoic, was definitely feeling it. It actually sparked a really good conversation afterwards about immigration and what it must be like to leave everything behind. Kind of heavy for a cartoon mouse movie, right? I was also wondering what everyone thinks of the cat characters? I mean, they're the villains, obviously, but are they too scary for really little ones? My three-year-old was a bit freaked out by Warren T. Rat, especially when he transforms. Just curious about other parents' experiences. Also, the singing! "Somewhere Out There" still gives me chills. What are your favorite moments from the movie? And one last thing - did anyone else think it was kinda weird that they made the immigrant experience a story about mice? I mean, obviously, it makes it easier to watch for kids, but I can imagine some folks finding it maybe a teensy bit insensitive? Anyway, just wanted to get your thoughts! 🙂
