Police Academy 3: Dumb Fun or Just Dumb?
Okay, so I just re-watched Police Academy 3: Back in Training. And I'm not going to lie, it's... a lot. I mean, the plot is paper-thin – two academies competing to stay open? Seriously? But there's something so endearing about the sheer absurdity of it all. Is it high art? Absolutely not. But does it make me giggle like a dork when Tackleberry goes full Rambo with the...lawnmower? Yes. Yes, it does. I'm specifically thinking about the scene where they're trying to train their new recruits and the whole thing devolves into total chaos. It's just slapstick gold. But like, is it good slapstick gold? Or am I just blinded by nostalgia for the 80s and the fact that, let's be honest, I have a soft spot for any movie with Bubba Smith? Mauser's attempts to sabotage Lassard's academy are so cartoonishly evil they almost circle back to being hilarious. Almost. And that ending competition....whew! Did anyone else find the cadets running through obstacles or the mud pit challenge particularly funny, or am I alone on this? I'm trying to figure out if it is really a guilty pleasure or if I'm giving it too much credit just because I loved it as a kid. Help me out here! What are your thoughts on Police Academy 3? Is it dumb fun, or just plain dumb?
