Jason Lives: Tommy Jarvis, Actually the REAL Villain?

Okay, hear me out, guys. Re-watching 'Jason Lives' (which, gotta say, is probably my fave of the later Friday installments – the self-aware humor actually works), and I'm starting to think we're looking at Tommy Jarvis ALL wrong. We always see him as the tormented hero, right? Traumatized by Jason, constantly battling his own demons. But what if HE'S the one causing all the problems? Like, REALLY causing them? Think about it: Jason was seemingly FINALLY done for at the end of Part 4 – buried, rotting, case closed (sort of). And who digs him up? TOMMY. Yeah, he thinks he's doing a good deed, ensuring Voorhees is definitively dead. But instead, he plays Dr. Frankenstein and gives the crazy dude a lightning bolt and a new lease on...un-life. All those deaths that follow? Directly attributable to Tommy's actions. It's like, dude, maybe just leave well enough ALONE! And then there's his obsession. Does a 'normal' person go to such lengths to ‘make sure’ a killer is dead? Seems a little…over the top, no? Like, maybe Tommy's got a dark side he's not even aware of, or perhaps he’s addicted to this idea of confronting and defeating Jason. It’s borderline maniacal if ya ask me. Maybe all those earlier run-ins with the kid just brought out his TRUE nature and made him into Jason's…enabler? Even Betsy Palmer (Jason's mom) might be like, 'Chill dude, you're more obsessed than I am!’ I know, I know, controversial. But it's just a thought! Am I totally off my rocker, or is there SOMETHING to this theory? Let me know what you guys think. I'm ready to be proved wrong! But for now...Team Maybe Tommy's Actually Sketchy. raises eyebrow
