Hannah and Her Sisters: Thanksgiving Drama Done Right?

Okay, international film buffs, Priya here! I finally got around to watching Woody Allen's "Hannah and Her Sisters" (yes, yes, I know, Allen... but I try to separate the art!). It's this sprawling family saga centered around, well, Hannah and her sisters! The title doesn't lie, lol. Seriously though, the family dynamics are SO relatable, even if my own family isn't quite as melodramatic. I can see how Allen won an Academy Award for it. What really struck me was the way the film handles relationships. It manages to be both funny and heartbreaking. I especially loved Dianne Wiest as Holly, the constantly struggling actress. Her neurotic energy is infectious! And Michael Caine as Hannah's husband... talk about smooth! But also, a bit of a creep for falling for Lee. The dinner table scenes are where the magic really happens. Everyone's putting on a brave face, but you can feel the tension bubbling beneath the surface. It's all so deliciously awkward and real. I wasn't crazy though about the ending. It felt a little too neatly wrapped up, especially after all the messy stuff that happened. But overall, it's a really well-observed and thought-provoking dramedy. It made me think about my own relationships and how complicated family can be. Plus, anytime there is a lot going on in the kitchen and living room, the film has my attention! Anyone else seen it? What did you think? Did you find it as resonating as I did, or was it just too much upper-class New York angst for your taste? Tell me your thoughts!
