Peggy Sue...Anyone Else Wish They Could Go Back?
Alright, Gen X crew, moviebuff_marc checking in. Just re-watched "Peggy Sue Got Married" last night, and man, does it hit different as you get older, ya know? I mean, back in '86 when it came out, it was, like, a fun what-if scenario. But now? Now it's a full-blown existential crisis in movie form! Anyone else feel that way? I'm thinking specifically about the scene where she's watching her parents argue, knowing all the crap that's gonna come down the line. It's brutal! And Kathleen Turner kills it, by the way. She's got that perfect mix of '80s coolness and '60s innocence...or at least, the memory of innocence. Plus, Cage being all Cage-y is always a plus. I also wonder about the ending. Did she really go back? Or was it all a dream she needed to work through some crap? It kinda reminds me of a lighter, goofier version of "It's a Wonderful Life", but instead of an angel showing you what life would be like without you, you get a time warp and a chance to ditch your high school sweetheart (sorry, Nic!). But is ditching him the right move? Hmmm... anyway, thoughts? Anyone else find this movie strangely profound, or am I just getting old and sentimental?
