Peggy Sue Got Married: Time Travel...But Where's the Punch?
Alright, so I finally checked out 'Peggy Sue Got Married' last night. I know, I know, late to the party. Thing is, I was expecting something way different given the synopsis. Time travel? Awesome! I figured there'd be some kind of kick-ass action sequence, maybe Peggy Sue learning some future martial arts and going all 'Back to the Future' on her high school bullies or something. But...nope. It's mostly just her being awkward and making different choices. I gotta admit, Kathleen Turner is great as Peggy Sue. She sells the whole "fish out of water" feeling really well. And I liked seeing a young Nicolas Cage, even if his character was kinda weird (that voice?!). But the whole movie just felt...slow. I kept waiting for something big to happen, some crazy stunt or a massive butterfly effect, but it was all pretty tame. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie. It's just...not what I was expecting at all. It's more about regret and second chances than anything else. I guess I was just hoping for a little more bang for my buck, you know? Has anyone else felt this way? Did I completely miss the point, or am I just too much of an action junkie to appreciate a more sentimental time travel flick? Like, even a little car chase or a fight scene during the sock hop would have helped!
