Armour of God: peak Jackie Chan or too goofy?
Okay, so I'm deep-diving into Jackie Chan's filmography right now, and just finished Armour of God. Wow. It's... something. I know Chan was trying to go bigger, more 'international' than some of his earlier stuff, and the Indiana Jones vibes are STRONG, but did anyone else find this one a little too over-the-top? Like, those Satanic monks? Seriously? Don't get me wrong, the action is incredible. That opening sequence with the cave and the tribe is fantastic, and the fight in the wind tunnel at the end is classic Chan. But the plot just felt so… silly. And the whole 'Laura' storyline felt kinda tacked on and awkward. I know it’s Jackie Chan, but it felt like the humor was cranked up to 11 at times, even by his standards. I'm curious what others think. Is this considered a high point in his body of work, or more of a fun but flawed experiment? I definitely appreciate the ambition, but I'm not sure the story lives up to the stunts, y'know? Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it. What are your thoughts on the directing? I couldn't find who did it!
