Back to School: A Deep Dive (and triple lindy!)
Alright action junkies and comedy connoisseurs, mikecinema here, back with another flick for your consideration. This time, we're diving into a stone-cold 80s classic: Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield. Now, I know what you're thinking, 'Mike, that's not exactly Die Hard.' And you're right. But hear me out! This movie isn't about explosions and headshots, it's about…wait for it…a triple lindy! Seriously, that dive is legendary. I always wondered if Dangerfield actually did that stunt himself, or if they brought in a pro. Either way, it's pure cinema gold. Beyond the diving board theatrics, the whole 'rich dad goes to college' premise is hilarious. The man literally builds a luxury suite on campus! Talk about over-the-top commitment. And the economics lecture scene? When he just starts building things to demonstrate supply and demand? Brilliant! I also gotta give props to Keith Gordon as his son, Jason. He plays the 'embarrassed son' role perfectly. He's trying to fit in, do the right thing, and his dad is just completely wrecking everything in the most amazing way possible. Okay, so maybe the romance subplot is a little weak, and the plot gets kinda predictable towards the end. But honestly, who cares? It's Rodney Dangerfield at his finest! The jokes are rapid-fire, the supporting characters are all memorable (Professor Terguson, the dean, even Kurt Vonnegut's cameo is great), and it's just a feel-good movie that always puts a smile on my face. It's no brain surgery, just pure escapism. Final verdict: if you haven't seen Back to School, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's a great example of 80s comedy done right. I'm gonna give it an 8/10, docked a few points for the predictable plot, but the triple lindy is worth at least two of those points back! What do you guys think, is this a classic or just another cheesy 80s comedy?
