Delta Force: Chuck Norris's Motorcycle & those Explosions!
Alright, so I just rewatched "The Delta Force" (yeah, the quintessential 80s action flick). I know, I know, it's cheesy as hell, but hear me out. Something's been bugging me re: the technical side of things. Specifically, Chuck Norris's motorcycle. That thing is loaded with missiles and machine guns, right? Did they actually build something like that for the movie, or was it all cleverly disguised set dressing and some seriously good editing? I'm trying to figure out how they managed to make it look so convincing back then, especially the deployment of the weapons. It's not realistic, obviously, but the illusion is really well done, considering. Also, anyone else notice how loud everything is? The sound design is cranked way up, especially during the Beirut assault. It's almost comical but I'm curious if there were any specific techniques they used to create that level of bombastic sound. Like, are we talking layered recordings or just straight-up overdriving the audio at certain points? I'm betting on the latter, haha. I mean, this is Golan-Globus we're talking about. And speaking of explosions... I mean, good lord, the pyrotechnics budget must have been insane! Everything goes BOOM. I'm wondering what kinds of explosives and techniques were used to get the look and scale of those explosions, especially when they blew up the buildings. They are clearly miniatures, right? I’m just trying to figure out what were some of the tricks they used to make those scenes look so damn impressive for the time. Just wondering what people who also love action and fx think.. Maybe I should look at old behind-the-scenes info but I wanted to ask you guys first.
