Psycho III - Okay, Hear Me Out...
Okay, so I know Psycho III gets a lot of hate, and yeah, it's definitely not Hitchcock. But I actually find it kind of...fascinating? Anthony Perkins directed it, which is already a wild card. I think the cinematography is surprisingly interesting in places. Like, there's this almost dreamlike quality to some of the shots, especially anything involving Maureen and Norman's internal struggles. The scene in the bell tower, with the shadows and the religious iconography, is genuinely striking. It definitely has some visual flair that I wasn't expecting. Don't get me wrong, the plot is bonkers, and some of the acting is... questionable (sorry, Diana Scarwid!). But I think Perkins was trying to do something more than just a straight-up slasher. He's playing with the themes of guilt, repression, and inherited trauma, but through this really warped, almost gothic lens. The way he frames Norman's descent back into madness is disturbing. It's not subtle, but it's effective. And the final shot? Chilling. I'm not saying it's a good movie, necessarily, but it's a compelling one. It's like a train wreck you can't look away from. It's Psycho through a funhouse mirror, and I'm weirdly into it. Anyone else have any thoughts on this, or am I totally alone in finding it at least somewhat redeemable?
