Dolls (1986) - More Than Just Creepy Dolls! [Theory]

Okay, so I just watched Dolls (1986) and I'm a little obsessed? Like, yeah, the dolls are super creepy and the old couple are…well, let's just say you wouldn't want them babysitting. BUT, I think there's more going on than just a simple horror movie. Hear me out. I think the dolls themselves are manifestations of the old couple's morality. Like, they literally turn evil people into dolls. That's messed up, for sure, but it's ALSO a kind of twisted justice, right? The little girl, Judy, is spared because she's innocent and kind. And the punk dude, Isabel, while she's got the look, she's got a good heart underneath. Everyone else? Doll food. The salesman being such a wimp, he gets turned into a doll! But it's like, his lack of spine kinda condemned him! My theory is that the old couple aren't just crazy, they're acting as some kind of… cosmic karma collectors? Judge, jury, and executioner, doll-style. Maybe they made a deal with something to punish the wicked. It's a bit far-fetched, maybe, but it makes the whole movie way more interesting than just 'ooooh, creepy dolls!' Also I kinda felt the movie was like a dark fairytale? Like, a morality tale for adults, but way more graphically violent. Anyone else get that vibe, or am I alone on this doll-obsessed island?
