Iron Eagle... so bad it's good?
Okay, so I was digging through some 80s action flicks the other night (because, you know, why not?) and stumbled upon Iron Eagle (1986). I know, I know, a bit of a guilty pleasure, right? The plot is bonkers – kid hacks into military computers to save his pilot dad held captive in some vaguely Middle Eastern country, and then gets help from a retired Air Force colonel... it's ridiculous! But honestly, it's got that cheesy 80s charm that I can't completely resist. Louis Gossett Jr. as Chappy Sinclair is everything. He's just so over-the-top and delivers those lines with such conviction, even when they're completely absurd. And the music?! Seriously, the soundtrack is like a time capsule of hair metal and power ballads. I found myself actually enjoying the flight scenes, even though I knew they were probably scientifically impossible, LOL. I definitely wouldn't call it a cinematic masterpiece, but Iron Eagle served up some serious nostalgia. Anyone else have a soft spot for this one? What's your favorite ridiculous-but-awesome 80s action movie? Maybe you can give me some suggestions on similar kinda films to watch? I think its really fun to see some of these old ones. Also, does anyone know who directed it? IMDB just says 'unknown' which is kind of wild to me.
