Demons 2: Is it actually better than the original?

Alright, fellow celluloid junkies, moviebuff_marc back again. Just re-watched "Demons 2" (1986) last night, and it got me thinking. Is it…better than the first one? Big question, I know. The original "Demons" had that killer setting – a freaking movie theater! You can't beat that meta vibe. But "Demons 2"…it's got something, too. That high-rise apartment building is claustrophobic as hell. I'm gonna throw a theory out there. "Demons 2" is actually a commentary on the fear of technology. Think about it: the whole thing kicks off because of a TV show! A demon pops out of the screen and starts infecting people. It's like a cheesy, 80s version of "The Ring" (which, let's be honest, owes a debt to this flick). And that little kid turning into a demon Chihuahua? Pure nightmare fuel, but also kind of hilarious. It's like Bava, but on acid. I'd bet Argento was jealous. But seriously, the fact that the demons spread through the TV…that's a statement about how easily we can be influenced and, dare I say, corrupted by media. Remember, this was before the internet! TV was king, and this movie plays into the fear of it. Plus, the practical effects are just chef's kiss. Cheesy? Sure. But so much better than soulless CGI we get today. I still squirm when that possessed dog bursts out of the dude's stomach in the TV room. And the cake demon in the beginning? That part is just bonkers. Anyway, that's my two cents. Is it "Citizen Kane?" No way. But is it a fun, gory, and surprisingly thought-provoking horror flick? Absolutely. Let me know what you guys think, am I totally off base here?
