"Pirates" (1986): Was it just me, or...?
Okay, so I just watched "Pirates" (1986) and I'm honestly not sure WHAT to think, lol. Like, it's definitely goofy, right? I'm not going crazy? The whole setup with Captain Red and Frog is just...bizarrely funny? Especially that scene where they're trying to steal the gold and everything goes wrong. I literally choked on my popcorn, it was so unexpected. But was it good funny, or just accidentally funny? I can't decide! And the costumes, OMG. Everything felt so over-the-top. Like they wanted it to be a real pirate movie but also knew they were doing something totally ridiculous. I kinda appreciate that? The plot felt all over the place, but honestly, I was laughing too much to really care if it made sense. I even found myself rooting for the kind of clumsy, mostly-useless pirates. So, my question is, did anyone else find this movie strangely compelling? Or am I just easily amused? I feel like it's the kind of movie you either love or hate, and I'm teetering somewhere in between. Was it intentionally this ridiculous, or was it just "so bad it's good"? Someone please tell me your thoughts so I know I'm not alone in this madness!
