Full Metal Jacket: Gut-wrenching doesn't even COVER it.

Okay, wow. I just finished watching Full Metal Jacket and I'm honestly still a little shaken. I went in knowing it was a Vietnam War movie, but nothing really prepared me for just how brutal it was. Like, the boot camp scenes with Private Pyle? My heart was absolutely breaking for that poor kid. Vincent D'Onofrio's performance was incredible, so raw and vulnerable (and then terrifying 😬). The way they systematically stripped away his humanity... I had to pause it a few times, it was just too much. And then it jumps to Vietnam and it's... different, but still awful? The dark humor is definitely there, which I guess is a coping mechanism for the characters (and maybe the audience?). But the scene with the sniper in Hue? When they're all pinned down and losing it? Seriously suffocating. I legit felt like I was right there with them, feeling the same panic. It messed with my sleep, honestly. I'm not even sure I liked it, you know? It's not exactly a 'fun' movie. But it's powerful. I think It's one of those films that sticks with you, makes you think about the cost of war, the dehumanization, all of it. I think EVERYONE should watch it, but be warned, you will cry, you will feel anxiety, maybe even a little triggered like I was. Okay, going to go cuddle my cat now. Needed! Just had to share my thoughts! What did you guys think?
