Predator: Still Holds Up, IMO

Okay, so I finally rewatched Predator last night, and wow. Just wow. I know it's, like, a staple for action/sci-fi, but sometimes those classics don't age well. Predator? Still totally rocks. The practical effects are AMAZING, considering. Like, that Predator suit? Iconic. And the jungle setting just adds to the tension so much. The scene where Blain gets taken out? Still freaks me out, especially when Dutch finds him and Poncho's just...gone quiet. So, so good. What I find interesting is how straightforward it is. No complicated lore dumps, no drawn-out origin story. Just BAM, super-soldier team gets hunted by an alien. The suspense builds so effectively, especially as they start losing guys and realize something is hunting them, but they don't know what. And Schwarzenegger is, well, Schwarzenegger. Perfect casting, basically. He nails the action hero thing but also sells the desperation and the fight for survival. I mean, who doesn't love watching Dutch cover himself in mud at the end? I think what REALLY makes it work is that it isn't just mindless action. There's a real sense of camaraderie between the commandos, and you feel their loss as they get picked off one by one. Plus, all the macho posturing and the weapons are cool, but it's the fear that sticks with you. It's almost like a slasher in a jungle. Anyone else find that to be true? Anyway, yeah, Predator still absolutely delivers. Definitely worth a revisit if you haven't seen it in a while. I'm now tempted to watch the sequels... but also kinda scared to ruin the magic of the original, lol. Thoughts?
