Seriously, how good is Dirty Dancing?
Okay, so like, I just rewatched Dirty Dancing for probably the 100th time (no shame!) and I'm still completely obsessed. But it got me thinking... is it actually a good movie or is it just, like, a nostalgia thing? I mean, the plot's pretty basic, right? Rich girl falls for dance instructor, daddy issues blah blah blah. But then you've got the music, the dancing (obvs!), and Patrick Swayze being, well, Patrick Swayze. Hard to argue with that! I think what really gets me is Baby's character arc. She's kinda awkward and naive at the beginning, but by the end she's totally standing up for herself and for Johnny. That final dance scene? Iconic. But even then, some of the dialogue is cheesy AF. Anyone else feel that way? Or am I just overthinking a perfect slice of 80s cheese? And speaking of cheese... what's with the sudden montage of them practicing near the end? It feels so rushed! Like they suddenly realized, 'Oh crap, we need to show them getting better somehow.' Still, I can't deny that the lift is everything. So, yeah, help me out here. Is it objectively good? Or just a guilty pleasure that I'll defend to the death? Also, low-key, anyone else think Penny deserved better? Like, she was going through so much and everyone seemed more concerned about Baby and Johnny's summer romance. Justice for Penny!!
