Okay, "Dirty Dancing"... I have thoughts (and questions!)
So, I finally bit the bullet and watched "Dirty Dancing." I know, I know, I'm like 30 years late to the party, but hey, better late than never, right? I gotta admit, I went in expecting it to be super cheesy and... well, it was a little cheesy, but I was also genuinely entertained? Especially the dancing! Like, wow. Patrick Swayze had some serious moves. Baby, though... man, Jennifer Grey sells the awkward-teen-trying-to-find-herself thing so well. The scene where she's trying to learn the lift and is just constantly falling on her butt? I felt that on a spiritual level. But honestly, my main question is, did anyone else think her dad was WAY harsh? Like, I get wanting to protect your daughter, but he just seemed so dismissive of everything Baby was interested in. Especially after she helps Penny?? And speaking of Penny... that whole situation was intense. I was genuinely stressed out for her. Plus, I'm a little confused about the Robbie character. Was he supposed to be a bad guy from the start? I couldn't quite figure out when he turned from kinda sweet to total jerk. Also, Johnny's speech at the end... iconic, or a little over the top? I'm torn! Anyway, I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks. Did this movie hold up for you? Am I missing some major cultural context here? Let me know!
