As You Wish! (aka The Princess Bride is STILL amazing)
Okay, so I just rewatched The Princess Bride for like, the millionth time lol. Seriously, this movie holds up SO WELL. It's technically a 'fairy tale' but it's like, a knowing fairy tale, ya know? Like it's winking at you the whole time. I always forget just how quotable it is. "Inconceivable!" "As you wish!" I even tried to use "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!" at work the other day, but no one got it. My coworkers are heathens, clearly. Andre the Giant as Fezzik is just chef's kiss. He's so lovable and kind, even though he's supposed to be this intimidating brute. And Mandy Patinkin's Inigo Montoya? I will never not be obsessed with his quest for revenge. The sword fight scene is legitimately awesome, even by today's standards. I think what really gets me is how it balances genuine romance with ridiculous humor. Like, Buttercup and Westley are actually kinda cute together, but the scenes with Prince Humperdinck are just straight-up hilarious (and kinda creepy tbh). I dunno who the director was (googling rn... Rob Reiner! Okay, that makes sense!), but he seriously nailed the tone. It's not overly cheesy, but it's definitely got that 80s charm. I think my only real complaint is that Buttercup is a little... damsel-y at times? Like, I wish she had a bit more agency, but she's still a total icon. Plus, she does shove Humperdinck down that hill at the end, so points for that! Anyways, if you haven't seen The Princess Bride (and honestly, how is that even possible?), do yourself a favor and watch it ASAP. It's the perfect movie for a cozy night in, and it's guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Seriously, what are you waiting for? Get to it!
