Okay okay, hear me out: The Princess Bride...a prophecy?
Okay, so watched The Princess Bride with Sarah and Mark last night (Mark had NEVER seen it, can you even believe?!). Anyway, I was struck by something I hadn't really considered before. What if the whole story is basically a prophecy being fulfilled? Think about it - the grandfather is telling the story to his sick grandson, but the story feels like it's playing out exactly as it's meant to. Every obstacle, every villain, every clever saying... it's like the universe is just following the script. Like, Inigo Montoya spending his life searching for the six-fingered man? That's not just revenge, it's destiny, especially considering how perfectly Westley sets him up for it. And Buttercup, kidnapped and resigned to her fate with Humperdink - even that feels preordained to push Westley to become the Dread Pirate Roberts and ultimately... well, himself. It’s not a coincidence they all happen to meet and have the skills needed to save her. Does that make sense? (Also, sry for the typo, lol). Even the seemingly random bits, like Miracle Max bringing Westley back from mostly dead. It's too perfect! It makes me wonder if the grandfather is somehow more involved than we think. Maybe he’s unconsciously influencing the story's outcome as he tells it. He does interrupt a lot and gets annoyed the kid isn't enjoying the "good parts" (aka the fighting!!!). It just all feels too convenient to be a standard fairytale. Maybe I'm overthinking, but I think there's something to it. What do you guys think? Am I crazy?
