Alright, "Lethal Weapon" - I Get It Now!
Okay, so I finally watched "Lethal Weapon." I know, I know, I'm super late to the party, but I'm on this classic movie kick and figured I'd give it a shot. I didn't even know who directed it going in, just that it was, like, the OG buddy cop movie everyone talks about. Man, was everyone right about Mel Gibson and Danny Glover! They have crazy good chemistry together, it's so much fun to watch. Riggs is completely off his rocker, the whole suicide attempt at the beginning was intense! But then you have Murtaugh, trying to just make it to retirement. The scene where Riggs is literally dragging Murtaugh from the sniper, like, holy crap! The action was way better than I expected, too. I was thinking it'd be a bit dated, but some of those fights were seriously brutal. Gary Busey as the main bad guy was perfectly creepy. The whole thing with the ex-special forces angle added a cool layer to the story. And I gotta say, I was pretty invested in the whole family dynamic with the Murtaughs. The scene at the dinner table felt so real and cozy despite the craziness going on around them. Honestly, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I came for the action, but I stayed for the characters. It's definitely a movie that deserves its reputation. Sure, some of the 80s stuff is a bit cheesy now, but the core relationship between Riggs and Murtaugh is timeless. The heroin plot was a good vehicle too, but at the end it was about their brotherhood. Definitely adding this to my rewatch list. Any other recs for similar stuff? Maybe something with a bit more… I don't know, heart? Let me know!
