Evil Dead II: Funniest Horror Sequel EVER? (Book Differences!)
Okay, LivCinema here, back from the (kinda) dead... speaking of DEAD, I NEED to talk about Evil Dead II! I just rewatched it for like, the millionth time and I'm still cracking up. It's supposed to be horror, right? But it's sooooo over-the-top and goofy that it's basically a horror-comedy. I mean, Ash fighting his own hand? The possessed deer head? Come on! Bruce Campbell is a friggin' LEGEND in this one. But here's the thing that always gets me thinking: how different is this really from the original Evil Dead, and ESPECIALLY from the Necronomicon bits in the book? I always felt like Evil Dead II kinda retconned some stuff and turned the whole thing into more of a slapstick parody of itself. Like, in the book, the Necronomicon is this terrifying, ancient tome filled with horrifying spells and warnings. In EDII, it's still dangerous, sure, but it feels almost like a prop in a stage play. I'm genuinly curious what others think. Did they lean too hard into the comedic elements for Evil Dead II? Or was it a genius move that cemented the franchise's unique identity? Also, anyone know if Sam Raimi explicitly addressed the changes he made to the Necronomicon's portrayal between the movies? And, MOST IMPORTANTLY, team tree or team... well, possessed hand?
