Hellraiser: Christopher Young's Score... Underrated?
Okay, soundtrack nerds, let's talk Hellraiser (1987). I know, I know, it's a horror classic, but I'm always surprised how little love Christopher Young's score gets when people discuss it. The visuals are iconic, Pinhead is awesome, but the music... it's just so good. Specifically, the main theme gives me chills every time. I'm thinking about how it subtly builds through the opening sequence, or how that almost liturgical feel contrasts with the sheer depravity on screen. It's not just spooky, it's genuinely beautiful in a twisted way which perfectly compliments the whole pain/pleasure duality of the cenobites. Am I missing something, or are we all sleeping on how integral Young's music is to the film's atmosphere? Does anyone else get the same intense feeling during the resurrection scene when the music really kicks in? Or am I just being overly enthusiastic about gothic horror scores again? I'd love to hear what you guys think -- it's one of my personal favorites but I wanna know if my ears are deceiving me.
