BHCop II: Still Good, Still Gonzo, Still Spotting New Stuff!
Okay, so I just re-watched Beverly Hills Cop II for like, the millionth time. I swear, every time I see it, I notice something new! This time it was the little nuances in the dialogue between Axel and Rosewood. The way Rosewood is both annoyed and secretly thrilled by Axel's chaos is just pure gold. Like, when Axel's doing his whole 'Jamaican undercover' thing at the Playboy Mansion, Rosewood's face is PRICELESS. You can tell he knows it's ridiculous but he's also kinda impressed? And can we talk about Karla Fry, AKA Brigitte Nielsen? Man, she's a badass villain. It's easy to just see her as the tall, intimidating henchwoman, but she actually brings this cold intelligence to the role. I think, and maybe this is just me, but I always thought she had some sort of 'respect' for Axel, like she knew he was on her level, even if he was on the 'good' side. It's subtle, but it's there. Plus, that opening car chase sequence? Still holds up. Maybe not as tight as the first movie's action, but definitely exciting. I remember seeing that scene in theaters as a kid and being completely blown away. Also, am I crazy, or is the scene when they're at the shooting range HYSTERICAL? Like, Taggart's commitment to the earmuffs and Rosewood's constant attempts to look cool while being completely overwhelmed. Pure comedy genius, imo. Anyway, just wanted to share. What are your favorite little details from BHCop II? Let's discuss!!
