Beverly Hills Cop II - Still Good, or Just Nostalgia Talking?

Okay, so re-watched Beverly Hills Cop II last night. I know it's not based on a BOOK (duh, Olivia!), but hear me out! It's basically an adaptation of the first film's vibe and…does it hold up? I remember loving it as a kid. The action, the one-liners, Axel being Axel…but now I'm not so sure. Specifically, the whole alphabet bandit thing feels kinda...thin? Like, the plot is basically a MacGuffin to get Axel back to Beverly Hills. I get that the charm is the dynamic between Axel, Taggart, and Rosewood, and those scenes are still gold (especially anything with Serge, let's be real). But did anyone else feel like Jurgen Prochnow was underutilized as Maxwell Dent? He was a great villain in other movies, but here he just felt...kinda bland? Maybe it's because he's overshadowed by Brigitte Nielsen's Karla Fry. She's a total boss, but her motivations feel a bit murky too. And the action! It's definitely bigger and more explodey than the first one, but it feels less...purposeful? Less clever. Like, the strip club shootout is cool, sure, but it doesn't have the same energy as Axel conning his way through the hotel in the original. Maybe I'm being too harsh. It's still entertaining, but I'm wondering if my love for it is just pure 80s nostalgia goggles. What do you guys think? Is it still a genuinely good sequel, or just a fun, fluffy rehash of the original's formula?
