Okay, "The Running Man" is WILD, but I kinda love it?

Alright guys, just finished watching "The Running Man" (1987) and HOLY CRAP that was... something. I honestly went in expecting some cheesy 80s action flick with Arnold being Arnold, and while I def got that, I also got, like, a seriously messed up dystopian future vibe. The whole concept of "criminals" being forced to fight for their lives on national TV is just bonkers, but also, given the state of reality TV these days, it feels... eerily plausible, ya know? Like, Subzero was SO badass, but Buzzsaw was legitimately terrifying. And the whole thing with Amber Mendez stumbling into the control room? Cheesy, SO cheesy, but I kinda didn't mind? Plus, seeing Richard Dawson (yeah, the old Family Feud guy!) as the smarmy game show host was both hilarious and unsettling at the same time. The movie definitely doesn't shy away from being over-the-top, the one liner and the sets are corny but good. It's super dated, obviously. The special effects are... well, they're from the 80s, what do you expect? And the plot is, let's be honest, pretty predictable. But there's something about its sheer over-the-topness and its surprisingly relevant social commentary (media manipulation, government control, etc.) that makes it a total guilty pleasure. I'm not saying it's like, a cinematic masterpiece, but if you're in the mood for some brainless action, a healthy dose of 80s cheese, and a surprisingly thought-provoking (if ham-fisted) look at a possible future, you could do a lot worse. Anyone else have thoughts? Am I totally off base here?
