Toxic Avenger: Fashion Victim or Sartorial Statement?

Okay, so I just watched The Toxic Avenger (don't judge!) and while the plot is...out there, I couldn't help but notice Melvin's transformation. Before, he's basically invisible, right? Dressed in that dorky janitor uniform – totally bland. But then he falls into the toxic waste and BOOM. We get Toxie. And while the look is definitely monstrous, I think it's kind of...a statement? Hear me out. My theory is that Toxie's look, all oozing green and grotesque muscles, is actually a hyper-exaggerated version of male power and virility. Like, the Thugs are physically intimidating bullies, but they are also kinda lame? When Melvin becomes the Toxic Avenger, he's finally got the physical presence to fight back. It's like the costume becomes an expression of this newfound strength, even if it's hideously ugly. Plus, the way he tears through the trash cans and uses those improvised 'weapons'? It's a gritty, urban, DIY fashion statement, almost punk. Think ripped-up jeans, but with mutant skin. And let's not forget that tutu! It's the perfect juxtaposition of the masculine and the absurd. It's as if, despite the ugliness of his accident, he's still reaching for some kind of beauty or aesthetic. He's reclaiming his body, even if it's a toxic mess. I know it sounds ridiculous to analyze the 'fashion' of The Toxic Avenger, but I really think there's something there. What do you all think? Am I totally overthinking this or is there a weird style commentary happening in this film?
