Okay, so... I Watched The Toxic Avenger. (Yikes!)

Alright, so, my husband and I were looking for something... different... to watch after the kids went to bed last night, and somehow we landed on The Toxic Avenger from 1984. I knew basically nothing about it going in, other than the title was kinda iconic. OMG you guys. I was not prepared! The plot is simple enough - nerdy janitor falls into toxic waste - but the actual movie... woah. Honestly, I spent most of the movie covering my eyes. There's some really graphic violence, and honestly, some of the humor is...questionable, to say the least. Like, the way they portray Sarah and the gang members is just... whew. Not great. Melvins transformation is pretty shocking, but honestly, the rest of the movie, while over the top, didn't scare me too much. It was interesting to see something SO different from what I normally watch with my family. I can see why it has its fans, it's definitely a unique piece of low-budget filmmaking, but I don't think I'll be reaching for it again anytime soon! On the plus side, the special effects for the Toxic Avenger himself are actually pretty impressive considering the budget. He really looks like he wants to do the right thing, despite his... appearance. Did anyone else find the scene where he saves that little girl kinda heartwarming? Like, amidst all the craziness, there's this tiny moment of genuine good. Idk, maybe I'm just grasping at straws here lol! Overall, while it probably wasn't the best choice for a chill evening, it sparked a lot of interesting conversations between my husband and I. What did you think of it?
