F/X (1986): Underrated Stunt-tastic Conspiracy Thriller?

Okay, so I just re-watched F/X (1986) and man, it holds up! I know it's not like, the most famous 80s thriller, but as a practical effects and stunt junkie, this movie is pure gold. Bryan Brown is so good as Rollie Tyler, the FX guy who gets double-crossed. And the whole premise – using movie magic to fake an assassination – is just brilliant. I think what makes this film special is how well it merges the thrilling plot with the amazing sfx. My theory? F/X is secretly commentary on the power of perception and how easily people can be manipulated. Think about it: Rollie uses illusions to fool gangsters, cops, and even the audience. Like that scene in the police station? Legendary! The movie is saying that what we see isn't always what's real, especially when skilled artists are involved. This totally mirrors real-world stuff. It really makes you wonder, doesn't it? And lets not forget the STUNTS. That warehouse fight scene is raw! No CGI bs, just dudes throwing themselves around and explosions that feel real because, well, they probably ARE. The pacing in this movie is great as well. I think it's a damn shame this movie isn't talked about more in stunt circles. Seriously, if you're into practical effects and gritty action, give it a watch. Do you think that Rollie Tyler ever considered becoming a method acter to help improve his act? Anyone else feel like F/X deserves more love? What are your favorite moments/stunts from the film? Let me know! Also, am I the only one who thinks Brian Dennehy was perfectly cast as the morally ambiguous Detective Leo McCarthy? It's a bit corny at moments, but the practical effects and the actors really carry it.
