The Lost Boys: Okay, who didn't want to be a vampire after '87?

Alright, score junkies, Hughes here. Let's talk about The Lost Boys. So, the actual score by Thomas Newman… it's kinda subdued, right? It's effective in creating this almost dreamlike atmosphere in Santa Carla, especially that eerie, almost melancholic vibe when Michael's starting to turn. But let's be honest, the soundtrack is what everyone remembers. And for good reason. The needle drops in this movie are LEGENDARY. "Cry Little Sister" by Gerard McMann? Instantly iconic. It's creepy, anthemic, and perfectly encapsulates the feeling of temptation and danger swirling around the boardwalk. And come on, who wasn't headbanging to "Lost in the Shadows (I Believe in the Night)" by Lou Gramm during the vampire battles? It's pure 80s rock goodness. Plus, INXS and Echo & the Bunnymen? Chef's kiss. Those choices gave the film a very distinct and lasting vibe. I do think the film is really elevated with the songs. I am not sure if the actual score would have stood up on its own without them. The mood of the film would've been lost, or at least not as memorable. I mean, Corey Feldman as Edgar Frog is pure gold, but can you imagine him staking vampires in silence? No way! The music adds that extra layer of comedic absurdity and coolness that the movie thrives on. All the dark, and the awesome soundtrack, definitely something I could watch over and over again. I am sure many agree!
