Okay, "The Lost Boys" - Overrated or am I Missing Something?
Alright, I finally caved and watched "The Lost Boys." I know, I know, apparently it's a vampire classic. But honestly? I wasn't blown away. Don't get me wrong, Kiefer Sutherland is gloriously cheesy as the head vamp, and the whole 80s aesthetic is definitely dialed up to 11. But beyond that, I just found it…meh. Like, the plot felt kinda thin, and the acting outside Sutherland was pretty wooden in places. I'm probably gonna get crucified for saying this, but the Frog brothers were just annoying. Comic relief that completely missed the mark for me. Their whole Rambo-wannabe thing just felt forced. Edgar's constant "Death by Stereo!" got old FAST. And honestly, Corey Haim? I know he was a teen idol at the time, but his acting was…limited. He mostly just looked perpetually confused. The whole romance angle with Star also felt rushed and underdeveloped. Like, they stare at each other longingly for five minutes and suddenly they're soulmates? I'm not buying it. The saxophone guy during the bonfire scene, though? Now that was legitimately unsettling. He's the one part of the movie that actually gave me the creeps. Look, I'm not saying it's a bad movie. It's definitely got its moments of campy fun, and the special effects are pretty decent for the time. But I just don't get the hype. Maybe I'm just too cynical, or maybe I'm missing some deep thematic layers that everyone else seems to be picking up on. But for me, "The Lost Boys" is more of a mildly entertaining time capsule than a truly great vampire flick. It's a fun watch if you're already into 80s horror, but definitely not the 'game changer' some people make it out to be. Am I completely off base here? Someone wanna explain to me why this movie is so beloved? Lay it on me. Maybe I just need my mind changed. Or maybe everyone else is just blinded by nostalgia.
