Planes, Trains, and... Rental Car Fires? (A PTA Question!)
Okay, folks, scottscreens here, and you know I'm all about that quotable life. "Those aren't pillows!" But seriously, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a goldmine. I rewatched it last night and was cracking up all over again, even though I've seen it a billion times. Steve Martin's Neal Page is us trying to navigate holiday travel, right? Pure anxiety. But John Candy... oh man, Del Griffith. What a force of nature. My question is this: does anyone else get seriously stressed out during the rental car scene? "You're going the wrong way!" It's not just the wrong way, it's the WRONG WAY ON A HIGHWAY. I think I actually grip my seat harder every time I see it. Is this just me being overly empathetic to Neal's plight, or is that scene objectively terrifying, even with the comedic payoff? Also, bonus points: what's your absolute favorite Del Griffith line, besides the obvious shower curtain rings pitch? Mine's gotta be when he's trying to be all helpful and says, "I have a hunch. Play your hunch!" It's just so... Del. Naive, well-intended, and completely useless. Let me know what y'all think! And hey, if you haven't seen it, seriously, get on it. "How 'bout a hug?" You won't regret it (probably... unless you have serious travel-related PTSD, then maybe proceed with caution). Okay, I'm signing off. Gotta go find a shower curtain ring now. Just kidding! ...Mostly.
