Dream Warriors: Is Kristen REALLY the Final Girl?
Okay, Dream Warriors. I just rewatched it (again, because, duh) and something keeps nagging at me. Everyone calls Kristen Parker the 'final girl' of the Elm Street franchise, but is she really? I mean, yeah, she's technically the last one standing against Freddy in this movie. She saves the day, has the whole 'I'll see you in my dreams' line, and all that jazz. But does she actually defeat him? I'm not so sure. Think about it. Nancy, bless her heart, is the one who finally puts Freddy down FOR GOOD (or so we thought, lol). She uses her knowledge and strength to yank him into the real world and confront him head-on. Kristen's power is pulling people into her dreams, which admittedly is crucial, but it's Nancy's bravery that makes the ultimate difference. And even after Nancy's sacrifice, the power of the children who believed in her help finish Freddy. Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but I see Nancy as the actual final girl of this entire trilogy. Kristen is more of a catalyst, a powerful tool that Nancy uses. It's like, she's the key that unlocks the door, but Nancy's the one who kicks it down. It's a combo, right? Plus, her final scene is like, basically a set-up for the next (terrible) movie. Speaking of, I may be grasping here.. but did they kill her offscreen purely because they had no idea what to do with the character's unique dream powers?? Anyway, that's just my two cents. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but the more I watch, the more I feel like we're giving Kristen too much credit and forgetting the absolute legend that is Nancy Thompson. Lmk what you guys think!
