Superman IV: So... What Was That?
Okay, so I'm on my classic movie journey, right? Decided to watch Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. I'd heard... things. And wow, those things were pretty accurate. I gotta ask, what happened here? I know it came out in the 80s but even for then, it's a bit... special. Like, Superman deciding to just collect all the nukes and yeet them into the sun? A bold move, I guess. But then Lex Luthor shows up (again!) with a giant, solar-powered Superman clone named Nuclear Man. The effects were... uh... something. Especially Nuclear Man's fingernails. I swear I saw those in a nightmare last night. And what was with the whole romantic subplot with Lacy Warfield? It felt so forced and just kinda... there. Seriously, though, did anyone else find the whole 'Superman rids the world of nukes' plot a little... naive? I mean, the intention is good, obviously. But the execution felt super ham-fisted. I'm genuinely curious what people who saw this in the theater back then thought. Was it a fun, campy adventure? Or did everyone just collectively agree to forget it existed? Lastly, I'm genuinely confused. Was this movie supposed to be funny? 'Cause sometimes it felt like they were trying to be serious, and other times... well, Nuclear Man's fingernails, again. Help me understand, classic movie experts! What am I missing? Was this a product of its time, or just a bad movie? I'm leaning towards the bad movie camp, tbh.
