Innerspace: Joe Dante's MOST Underrated?
Okay, so I'm deep-diving into Joe Dante's filmography because, let's be real, the guy's a genius. Gremlins is obviously iconic, but I started wondering about some of his lesser-known stuff, and Innerspace came up. I watched it last night, and I'm kinda blown away. I knew vaguely about the plot – Dennis Quaid shrunk down and inside Martin Short – but I didn't expect it to be THIS good. For anyone who's seen it, what do you think? I especially loved the scenes where Tuck (Quaid) is trying to control Jack (Short) from the inside. Short's physical comedy is top-notch, and the effects, while obviously dated now, still hold up pretty well, the special effects and production design really sell the concept. The scene where Jack's in the cowboy bar and Tuck is trying to steer him away from the villains? Hilarious! I just feel like this movie doesn't get talked about enough when people mention 80s classics. I wouldn't't put it up there with, say, 'Back to the Future,' but it's definitely a solid sci-fi comedy with a lot of heart. Am I alone in thinking this is one of Dante's most underrated films, or are there others I'm missing that deserve more credit? Let me know your thoughts!
