Police Academy 4: More Like Citizens on Snooze Patrol?

Okay, so I just revisited Police Academy 4, and... look, I get the nostalgia. I grew up on these movies. But man, does this one feel like a comedown after the first three. The premise, Citizens on Patrol (COP), is actually kinda interesting. Lassard's trying to get the community involved and it could have been a cool way to mix the usual academy hijinks with some real-world scenarios. But it just... doesn't quite land. The plot feels super disjointed. We've got the COP recruits doing their thing, but then there's Zed's goofy romance (which, granted, Anthony and Bobcat always bring the energy), and then Proctor and Mauser are back to being utterly incompetent. The pacing is all over the place! One minute we're doing a training montage set to 80s synth-pop(which I'm always here for), the next we're in an overly long skateboarding chase scene. I love skateboarding, I do, but it felt really shoe-horned in, like the studio just wanted to capitalize on the whole skater thing that was happening. And speaking of Mauser, it still boggles my mind how genuinely unlikable he is. Even Proctor gets some moments of comedic relief, but Mauser is just... mean-spirited? I think it throws off the balance of the humor a bit. Maybe it's just me who thinks they went too far with him. The hot air balloon scene WAS pretty hilarious though, I won't lie. And seeing Hightower manhandle that dude was always a win. Overall, it's not terrible. There are laughs to be had, especially if you're watching with a group of friends and some beers. But compared to the earlier installments, Police Academy 4 feels sluggish and unfocused. It's a fun watch sometimes, but I probably won't be adding this to my regular rotation. What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh?
